Montreal.-<\/strong><\/em> El diputado del Partido Nuevo Dem\u00f3crata (NDP) por Quebec Thomas Mulcair anunci\u00f3 oficialmente este jueves su decisi\u00f3n de presentarse como candidato para liderar la formaci\u00f3n pol\u00edtica, en sustituci\u00f3n del fallecido <a href=\"https:\/\/diarioelpopular.com\/category\/jack-layton-1950-2011\/\">Jack Layton<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mulcair se suma as\u00ed a una lista de candidatos que incluye ya al expresidente del partido Brian Topp, los diputados Romeo Saganash, Paul Dewar y Nathan Cullen, y el empresario Martin Singh.<\/p>\n<p>En presencia de varios diputados, Thomas Mulcair pidi\u00f3 a los miembros del partido, que ocupa el puesto de oposici\u00f3n oficial en el Parlamento, considerar el \u00e9xito del NPD en Quebec en las \u00faltimas elecciones como un trampol\u00edn para lograr la misma haza\u00f1a en el resto de Canad\u00e1.<\/p>\n<p>Mulcair dijo tambi\u00e9n que el lugar de origen de los candidatos no deber\u00eda influir en la elecci\u00f3n del sucesor de Layton.<\/p>\n<p>El futuro l\u00edder del NPD ser\u00e1 elegido el 24 de marzo en Toronto por los miembros del partido. El NDP gan\u00f3 103 esca\u00f1os en las elecciones federales del pasado 2 de mayo.
