Dentro de la naturaleza h\u00edbrida que adquirir\u00e1 la 45\u00aa edici\u00f3n del Festival Internacional de Cine de Toronto, donde se combinar\u00e1 la muy limitada presencia f\u00edsica con la difusi\u00f3n en l\u00ednea, la pel\u00edcula de apertura ser\u00e1 American Utopia <\/strong>seg\u00fan lo han hecho saber Cameron Bailey y Joana Vicente, los co-directores art\u00edsticos del TIFF.<\/p>\n

El director Spike Lee film\u00f3 la versi\u00f3n del espect\u00e1culo musical de Broadway David Byrne’s American Utopia <\/strong>que se mantuvo en cartel desde octubre de 2019 hasta febrero del presente a\u00f1o con un sostenido \u00e9xito de p\u00fablico y cr\u00edtica. El film documenta el concierto del m\u00fasico y compositor escoc\u00e9s David Byrne en el que se incluyen canciones de su \u00e1lbum de 2018 as\u00ed como algunas otras que provienen de sus a\u00f1os en que lideraba la banda de rock Talking Heads<\/em>. El artista adem\u00e1s de cantar, toca instrumentos y baila junto con un elenco de 11 m\u00fasicos de diferentes lugares del mundo, incluyendo a la canadiense Jacquelene Acevedo.<\/p>\n

Seg\u00fan se anticipa, Lee magistralmente se centra una experiencia transformadora, en la medida que el show alude a temas de naturaleza social y pol\u00edtica, revelando el modo en que el p\u00fablico puede unirse en estos desafiantes momentos a trav\u00e9s del poder del entretenimiento.<\/p>\n

En el comunicado de prensa Joana Vicente expresa que “esta alegre pel\u00edcula lleva al p\u00fablico a un viaje musical sobre la apertura, el optimismo y la fe en la humanidad. Esto es especialmente conmovedor en un momento de gran incertidumbre en todo el mundo”. Por su parte Cameron Bailey agrega: “Spike Lee de alguna manera siempre se adecu\u00f3 exactamente a su \u00e9poca y adelant\u00e1ndose a su tiempo. Con “American Utopia” de Byrne, el realizador trae las canciones cl\u00e1sicas del compositor y el alegre escenario a la pantalla justo cuando lo necesitamos”.<\/p>\n

Debido a la dif\u00edcil situaci\u00f3n que atraviesa el mundo a causa de la pandemia, el TIFF contin\u00faa trabajando estrechamente con la Provincia de Ontario, la Municipalidad de Toronto y los oficiales de salud p\u00fablica, teniendo en cuenta que durante el transcurso del festival la prioridad mayor es el bienestar tanto de los concurrentes al mismo como el de los residentes de toda la comunidad.<\/p>\n

Spike Lee\u2019s filmed version of Broadway show\u00a0<\/strong>David Byrne\u2019s American Utopia\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>will open the 45th Toronto International Film Festival on September 10.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Co-heads Cameron Bailey and Joanna Vicente announced the selection on Tuesday (July 21), weeks after they unveiled plans for a\u00a0hybrid physical-online festival, set to run from September 10-19.<\/p>\n

David Byrne\u2019s American Utopia\u00a0<\/em>features\u00a0<\/em>the\u00a0<\/em>Talking Heads frontman and a troupe of 11 musicians performing songs from Byrne\u2019s 2018 solo album of the same name and Talking Heads standards like\u00a0Once In A Lifetime<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Burning Down The House<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The show played at Broadway\u2019s Hudson Theatre in New York City from October 2019-February 2020.<\/p>\n

Janelle Mon\u00e1e\u2019s\u00a0Hell You\u00a0Talmbout<\/em>\u00a0is also featured in the set list and contributes to tackling the impactful subjects surrounding Black Americans who have been killed at the hands of law enforcement.<\/p>\n

David Byrne\u2019s American Utopia<\/em>\u00a0will premiere in Canada on Bell Media\u2019s Crave day-and-date with the US broadcast on HBO this autumn.<\/p>\n

Participant, River Road Entertainment and Warner Music Entertainment are executive producers and finance the project, with Participant as lead.<\/p>\n

Byrne\u2019s Todomundo and Lee\u2019s Forty Acres and a Mule Filmworks production companies produced the film and Byrne and Lee serve as producers. Radical Media is also an executive producer.<\/p>\n

Participant\u2019s Jeff Skoll, David Linde, and Diane Weyermann are executive producers with Warner Music Group\u2019s Len Blavatnik, David Bither, Charlie Cohen, and Kurt Deutsch, Bill Pohlad and Christa Zofcin Workman for River Road, Radical Media\u2019s Jon Kamen, Dave Sirulnick and Meredith Bennett, and lead producers on the Broadway show Kristin Caskey, Mike Isaacson and Patrick Catullo.<\/p>\n

David Byrne is a Scottish-born, American-raised songwriter and singer. He\u2019s best known as the frontman of Talking Heads, who were active between 1975 and 1991 and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Byrne won an Oscar and a Grammy Award along with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Cong Su for their original score for Bernardo Bertolucci\u2019s\u00a0The Last Emperor<\/em>\u00a0(1987).<\/p>\n
